Information for Primary Schools
HotRock is focused on supporting high schools, as it is our belief that this is where the most pressing need for additional energy and funding lies. A lot of primary schools around the state have got wonderful programs up and running, utilising the flexibility of their timetable structure, the willingness of their parent body and the assistance of support organisations such as AUSSi-WA, Wastewise and Waterwise.
While HotRock can support Primary Schools by welcoming them to attend our free teacher workshops and by offering the great resources that are available on this site, we are not able to fund their Sustainability Projects directly.
We point primary school teachers towards the following 6 ideas as a starter to get them going.
.
1)  HotRock hosts a number of free workshops.
Interested teachers should join the HotRock Network to receive on-going information about these kinds of opportunities.
To date, HotRock workshops have focused on the knowledge and skills required to establish and manage an organic food garden.
.
2) BFA Organic Schools Gardens Program
It is a series of lessons developed by the 'Biological Farmers of Australia' about organic gardening in primary schools.  'The program is designed for students aged 8 -12 years and provides written materials for lessons taking place both inside and outside the classroom written by the author of highly acclaimed and twice-published gardening guide "Easy Organic Gardening and Moon Planting". Author of the guide, Lyn Bagnall, together with her husband, is a certified organic farmer based in NSW.  Its specific to the southern hemisphere too, designed around our seasons.'  Its also FREE.
